Panic hat mir als registriertem Kunden (das gibt’s noch) heute morgen eine Mail geschickt: Transmit 2 für Mac OS X ist raus!Als ich Holger im Sommer 2001 mit meinem frisch erworbenen iBook gefragt habe, welches Mac-Pendant er zu FTP-Software wie LeechFTP empfehlen kann, schrieb er: Transmit!
Transmit beherrscht zwar kein multi-threading im Sinne von gleichzeitigem Transport mehrerer Dateien, aber es ist angenehm übersichtlich, einfach, klein und zuverlässig.
Die neue Version ist keine Carbon-Applikation mehr, sondern ein Cocoa-Programm.

Bei Transmit 1 war es bislang so, dass man alle Features auf Herz und Nieren testen konnte und es auch nach dem Ablauf der 30-tägigen Testphase keine Feature-Beschränkung gab, sondern nur einen wenig aufdringlichen Nag-Screen mit lustigen Sätzen, die zum Kauf animieren sollten.
Wie es bei Transmit 2 ist, kann ich nicht sagen: Ich habe das Update gekauft, noch ehe ich die oben zitierte Mail zu Ende gelesen habe. Danach Download der Software und gleich den neuen Registrierungscode eingegeben. Die »Installation« ist Mac-like: Es gibt keinen Installer. Einfach nur nach dem Auspacken des Archivs den Ordner ins Applications-Verzeichnis ziehen, Einstellungen der Vorversion wie Favoriten werden übernommen.
