»The Wrestler« ist einerseits die Geschichte eines abgehalfterten Profi-Wrestlers, der trotz gesundheitlicher Probleme wieder in den Ring steigt um Geld zu verdienen. Andererseits ist es auch eine persönliche Geschichte über eine Vater-Tochter-Beziehung und eine Freundschaft. Auf einer Meta-Ebene geht es um einen Mann der nur sich selbst hat und nach Niederlagen wieder aufsteht. Sehenswert.

Vor fast genau 5 Jahren habe ich mir die D70 von Nikon gekauft: Damals war sie – neben der Canon EOS 300D – eine bezahlbare digitale Amateur-Spiegelreflexkamera für unter 1.000 Euro. Sie hat mich rund 11.000 Aufnahmen lang begleitet, aber in letzter Zeit sind meine Ansprüche etwas gewachsen: Bei Aufnahmen in Räumen gibt es ab ISO 800 sichtbares Rauschen, mehr Autofokus-Messpunkte wären wünschenswert, außerdem ein größeres Display zur Bildkontrolle und um dem Modell das Ergebnis zeigen zu können.
Dank einer Steuerrückzahlung habe ich mir nun die D90 zugelegt, den Nach-Nachfolger: High-ISO bis 3200 (rauscharm bis ca. 1600), mehr Autofokuspunkte, größeres Display, leiserer Auslöser, 13 Megapixel, schnellere Bildverarbeitung. Von Chase Jarvis und seinem Team gibt es ein sehr schönes Video zur Produkteinführung, das auch die HD-Videofunktion der D90 zeigt (für die ich nicht so den Bedarf habe).
Zusammen mit der Kamera habe ich mir eine 4-GB-SD-Karte für rund 13 Euro gekauft – vor 5 Jahren habe ich für das 1-GB-Microdrive noch 170 Euro bezahlt… Nächste Anschaffungen: eine weitere Speicherkarte und einen weiteren Akku. Und ich hoffe darauf dass Nikon dieses Jahr noch einige lichtstarke DX-Festbrennweiten mit Ultraschallmotor rausbringt; 85mm oder 105mm wären nett…

Das vergessen die meisten Kritiker wenn sie bemängeln, einem Apple-Produkt fehle noch Feature X oder müsste Workflow Y unterstützen.

John Gruber und Merlin Mann haben auf der South-by-Southwest-Konferenz dieses Jahr eine gemeinsame Panel-Session veranstaltet – Themen: Blogs, Marketing, Social Media. Der einstündige Audio-Mitschnitt lohnt sich: sehr, sehr viele wahre Worte! Auf ratafia.info gibt es auch ein Transkript.
Hier ein paar Zitate:
Mann: »I’m so tired of every social media douche going "Zappo’s is on Twitter!" And you’re like: "Yeah, they’re on Twitter; after putting millions of dollars into customer support." Getting an account on Twitter does not make you Zappo’s. Having the resources behind serving the shit out of your audience makes you Zappo’s. And it doesn’t happen overnight, with a login and an email that you click on a link.«
Mann: »Social media – when it’s really social media – is not about what you have to say; it’s having a tolerance for what people have to say about you. Gruber: »1) Give away more stuff than you think you should, and make it easy for people to get.
2) Focus on diverse secondary revenue streams, and always have your eyes open for new and replacement ones.
3) Don’t do stuff that seems profitable, but potentially messes up the reason people like you.«

Heute Abend fand die Vernissage der neuen Fotoserie von Jan von Holleben statt: Im Postfuhramt sind noch bis 13. April »Liebesorte« zu sehen. Die Fotos sind demnächst bundesweit zu sehen – in der neuen AIDS-Aufklärungskampagne . Am besten gefallen mir die Motive »anbeißen« und »rumtreiben«.

Um ein Vorurteil gleich vorwegzunehmen: »Slumdog Millionaire« ist kein Bollywood-Film. Stattdessen erzählt er in bewegenden Bildern die Geschichte des Slumjungen Jamal, der bei der indischen Ausgabe von »Wer wird Millionär« abräumt. Ein wirklich beeindruckender Film!
